How To Get Relief From Mouth Ulcer At Home

A mouth ulcer is a common problem faced by people all around the world.  It is also described as a sore that appears in the mouth, often on the inside of the cheeks. Generally, it is harmful but feels you more painful when you eat, drink and brush the teeth. A mouth ulcer clears up on their own but if it stays for more than 3 weeks, go and get medical advice. You can not get infected by a mouth ulcer from other people. Also, 1 out of 5 people got ulcer regularly. 

There are 3 types of mouth ulcer -


(1) Minor ulcers, which is small in diameter and usually clears up in 10 to 14 days.

(2) Major ulcers, which are bigger in size but in irregular design. These type of ulcers take a longer time to clear up, usually more than 14 days. 

(3) Herpetiform ulcer, which is a group of small sore or minor ulcers. This kind of ulcer is not easily clear up and take several days to heal.

Cause Of Mouth Ulcer - 


The direct reason behind the causes of mouth ulcer is unknown. Mouth ulcers can be triggered by stress or mouth tissue injury. Some foods which are acidic in nature can also trigger mouth ulcers. A mouth ulcer can also be triggered by nutritional problems. If you quit smoking then you can have temporarily mouth ulcers. 

HOW TO GET RELIEF FROM MOUTH ULCER AT HOME -

(1) Rinse Your Mouth By A Saline Solution - 


Salt water has the disinfectant property in it. Rinse your mouth with the salt water solution can help to reduce swelling around your mouth ulcer. It also keeps it from bacteria. Mix half of tablespoon of salt in a glass of lukewarm water, rinse your mouth thoroughly and spit out the salt water into the sink. Do not swallow it. 

(2) Use Lemon and Honey - 


Honey has the healing effect on mouth ulcer. It retains moisture around ulcer and helps to heal ulcer fast. You can add lemon with honey.

(3) Use Hydrogen Peroxide - 


Similar to saline solution, Hydrogen peroxide is also disinfected the mouth ulcer. Mix only 3% of hydrogen peroxide with the equal quantity of water and soak it with cotton. Dab this cotton on mouth ulcer and hold it for a few seconds. It will help to disinfectant the mouth ulcer.

(4) Use Ice - 


Ice can reduce the swelling around the mouth ulcer. Use small pieces of ice and put directly on the ulcer. Also drink cool water in the whole day. 

(5) Reduce Acidic Food Intake - 


During the mouth ulcer problem, avoid acidic food intake. Acidic food can trigger your mouth ulcer and will not help.



There is no cure for mouth ulcers. They often reoccur. You may be able to reduce their frequency with good dental hygiene. Good dental health is achieved by avoiding foods that irritate your mouth, including acidic or spicy foods, avoiding irritation from gum chewing and brushing with a soft-bristled brush after meals and flossing daily. This will keep your mouth free of foods that might trigger a sore. Stay healthy and stay fit.
